PSV and Philips are celebrating their 110-year partnership. During the home game against N.E.C., PSV further sealed this partnership with the 'greenest choice' for lighting their turf with Philips Horticulture LED lamps from Signify, world leader in lighting and former Philips Lighting. The chosen lighting solution is sustainable, flexibly controllable and ensures optimal turf quality combined with maximum energy savings.

Previously, PSV still used traditional HPS lamps in the 9 light racks scattered around the field. These lamps ensure that the grass receives sufficient light even during the dark months of the year and in the shaded areas, keeping it in good condition. However, because the lamps burn on average about 20 hours a day in the winter, their use is associated with quite high energy consumption. With Philips LED, for the same amount of light, up to 50% energy can be saved. An additional advantage is that the existing light racks can be retained and the old lamps easily replaced with the new LED lamps.

Stadium director Sjors van den Boogaart says that the improvement of the turf fits within the club's bigger ambitions: "We are tackling the quality of the Philips Stadium, which includes a better turf. Our ambition is a top European-level mat. Thanks to Signify's more sustainable LED lighting installation, we will soon have a better quality pitch and no more energy will be lost. We have already converted 1 light rack with Philips LED earlier this year, and the results look very promising."

De Enk Groen & Golf takes care of the grass maintenance at the Philips Stadium, and will continue to shape this challenging grass ambition in the coming years. They have confidence in PSV's choice to work with the Philips LED lamps: "Because these LED lamps and accompanying heat panels can be dimmed separately per light rack, we can create the right balance for optimal grass growth under all circumstances and at any time of the year. In addition, based on sensors and measured daylight, we can also control the LED lighting per light rack for even more consistent grass quality."

Dick Lek of VTI Horst, a hortiLED partner of Signify, will take care of the installation of the overall system. Through an integral dashboard all information is made transparent to the users, who will also have remote access. The system now fulfills all specific wishes of the club for the growth of the grass, but offers PSV many more possibilities for further expansion with other functionalities in the future.

Because the use of LED for grass growth in stadiums is a relatively new expertise, the parties involved have agreed to continue innovating together in the coming period. Udo van Slooten, Business Leader of Philips Horticulture LED Solutions emphasizes the possibilities.
