Early this month, the Dutch Sustainable Tap Water Association was officially established in Zoetermeer. This new umbrella organization for producers of water and energy-saving tap water technologies wants more attention to the importance of saving technologies in the energy transition of the built environment.

The Dutch Sustainable Tap Water Association was founded with the main goal of developing and producing innovative solutions that significantly reduce the energy demand for heating tap water in homes. This makes a substantial contribution to reducing CO2 emissions, resulting in both lower costs and a cleaner planet. Traditionally, a significant portion of the energy used to heat tap water is simply flushed away down the drain after use. However, it turns out that 40% to 75% of this flushed energy can be easily recovered, resulting in significant reductions in energy consumption and CO2 emissions.

Reduction

The Dutch Sustainable Tap Water Association has identified a number of key priorities. Namely: Reduction (primary) energy use, reduction of fossil energy, reducing footprint, safe and sustainable and hot tap water, combating energy poverty. The shower drain is the biggest energy leak in every home. With a simple intervention we can save over 50%. Besides environmental gains, this saves hundreds of euros per year, says Luuk Dijkhuis, the chairman of the Dutch Sustainable Tap Water Association.

The Sustainable Tap Water Association is affiliated with the Dutch Sustainability Industry-Built Environment (NVI-GO). To achieve its goals, NVI-GO has a new organizational structure with a foundation and a board in which the Sustainable Tap Water Association is united. By working together with all associations from a connection, NVI-GO operates as a collective and can accelerate sustainability. Annemarije Tillema, director of NVI-GO: "The Netherlands is in the middle of an energy transition and we need to reduce CO2 emissions. Our manufacturing industry collectively offers the solutions to make the indoor climate of buildings more comfortable and sustainable. All this with affordable, innovative solutions and always tailored to the specific situation. We are leading the way in the Netherlands. The challenge is to maintain this lead with targeted programs and together with all stakeholders to accelerate further. Here we are happy to work together with the Sustainable Tap Water Association, which can strengthen this movement."

Currently, the Sustainable Tap Water Association has six members, namely: ACO Drains, IthoDaalderop, Luxxor Drains, AB Sales & Trade and Q-Blue. The board of the new association is composed as follows: Harry Müller (General Board Member), Paul Gruson (Vice Chairman) and Luuk Dijkhuis (President).
