This year's NVKL Refrigeration Trophy 2024 has been awarded to IJskoud. The refrigeration company received the challenge trophy from the hands of soccer referee Bas Nijhuis this afternoon under the watchful eye of an expert jury and visitors at the VSK trade fair in Utrecht.
NVKL, the association of refrigeration companies, has been awarding the NVKL Refrigeration Trophy since 1989 -once every two years- during the VSK to a company that has realized an innovation in refrigeration and/or climate engineering. Innovations that stand a chance of being awarded the trophy must be applicable in practice and lead to successful results in a technical, economic and/or social sense.
An independent jury led by Fons Pennartz, chairman of the NVKL project group KANS, reviewed the nine entries and announced the three nominees. The entries ranged from product and service innovations to technical innovations. In the end, IJskoud's FreezerData product was declared the winner of the Cooling Trophy.
The contenders
From the entries, three finalists were nominated. In addition to IJskoud, Van Kempen Koudetechniek and ACR Klimaat stood a chance of winning the innovation prize. Van Kempen Koudetechniek's VK-EPEX enables the owner of a refrigeration system to save energy costs by controlling the system based on the energy price. Since energy costs are a large part of operating costs, the owner can realize significant savings on the total cost of ownership. ACR Climate participated with the Triple Aqua heat pump with CO2 scroll compressor. By using these compressors and CO2 as the refrigerant, they are introducing a heat pump that runs on natural refrigerant, but is less complex than most current CO2 systems. This allows it to be used in larger DX air conditioning systems.
Winning product FreezerData from Ice Cold
IJskoud's FreezerData product is a digital platform that collects all relevant data from a refrigeration system with a universal sensor set and makes it clear to the technician and user. With that data, predictive maintenance can be done, reducing maintenance costs and minimizing downtime. The product is innovative in analyzing and using data to help refrigeration systems run more reliably and sustainably, while also being able to take the burden off the technician. This is an important combination at a time of severe labor shortages, along with an increase in durable refrigeration equipment in the market, which needs to be installed and maintained. The innovation, great social benefit and scalability of the product's rollout ensure that Ice Cold has been named the winner of the NVKL Refrigeration Trophy 2024!
