It is not always possible or desirable to place an outdoor unit anywhere. Consider the noise pollution for the neighbors, because of the facade view, or because there is simply no suitable space to place an outdoor unit. A heat pump that you place entirely indoors is then a godsend. They are also relatively easy and quick to install. These are four monoblock heat pumps intended for indoor installation.

Etherma Fire+Ice

This modern-looking, unobtrusive air-to-air heat pump from Etherma can both heat and cool a home. It is important to note that you must install this unit indoors against an exterior vertical wall that has a smooth surface. All necessary penetrations are neatly hidden behind the heat pump housing.

Installation is therefore relatively simple. It mainly comes down to determining the optimal location, drilling two through holes for the supply and removal of outside air, another small one for the removal of condensation, then attaching the unit to the inside wall. Then it can start heating and cooling right away. Installation takes place entirely from the inside.

The heat pump uses refrigerant R32, and at low outdoor temperatures, an integrated auxiliary heating element can assist. However, the Etherma Fire+Ice is intended for small houses and apartments up to about 35 square meters. A heat pump boiler is additionally required for hot tap water.

Triple Solar

This is a 3.5 kW PVT heat pump and is suitable for hybrid or all-electric use. However, it is a brine-to-water heat pump that you need to combine with Triple Solar's PVT panels. It can then be used for heating, cooling and hot tap water. Thanks to the combination with PVT panels, both heat and power are gained at the same time, and that's with only panels on the roof. The lack of moving parts makes the indoor unit very compact, quiet and low maintenance.

Propane (R290) is used as the refrigerant. Expanding to serve as a fully all-elecric version is easily arranged by combining the heat pump with Triple Solar's thermal battery. The heat stored in it can then be used to provide hot tap water at any time. This particular thermal battery is up to four times smaller than a traditional hot water cylinder, in part because the heating element is already present in the PVT heat pump itself.

Alpha Innotec Paros 4

This 4 kW air-to-water heat pump also requires two ducts for the supply and return of outside air. These can be wall ducts for first floor installation in a garage or utility room, for example, or two roof ducts or two wall ducts for attic installation. When using roof penetrations, you can additionally choose an attractively designed heat pump chimney.

This quiet heat pump can provide heating, cooling and domestic hot water. Again, it is intended for existing buildings as well as new construction, as the heat pump can be placed in both hybrid and all-electric setups. The refrigerant R454B used has a considerably lower GWP than older refrigerants such as R410A. A tower arrangement is possible in which everything, including a buffer tank, is integrated. You can also work with separate components, which is especially useful if customization is required.
