The Economic Institute for Construction has studied how many construction projects water boards will put on the market in the period 2024-2025. The 21 Dutch water boards will engage market parties for 748 projects during this period. The total expected construction sum is 2.8 billion euros.
The list of projects is compiled in the 2024-2025 Water Board Market Project Calendar. Of the 748 projects, 641 fall into the "works" category and 107 into the "services" category. The overview should contribute to the right match of supply and demand.
Trends
Notable is the increase in projects around sewage treatment plants. With an estimated construction cost of nearly 875 million euros, these account for one-third of the total. The increase is due to the major task in the field of water quality, such as the requirements of the European Water Framework Directive. Another striking trend is in the forms of contract used. Over 40% of the work volume is put on the market with construction teams and framework contracts. In 2020, this was still less than a quarter.
Tight market
Water boards compete with other clients, such as drinking water companies and clients in the infrastructure sector. The broad demand for capacity underscores the importance of having a good view of upcoming projects. The report was prepared by the Economic Institute for Construction on behalf of the Water Works Cooperation Working Group.
