The development of sustainable heat networks must be faster. That is the opinion of Techniek Nederland and Energie-Nederland. The chairmen of these sector organizations, Doekle Terpstra and Cora van Nieuwenhuizen, have therefore signed the agreement 'Working together on the quality of sustainable heat networks'. The aim of the agreement is that more installation companies will engage in installing delivery sets in homes connected to a heat network.

With the InstallQ approval scheme Afleversets as the new standard, Techniek Nederland and Energie-Nederland also want to guarantee the quality of the installation work. Terpstra and Van Nieuwenhuizen laid down the agreements during the installation trade fair VSK 2024.

Drain sets

If a home has a connection to a heat grid (also known as "district heat"), a delivery set is needed to provide heat to residents for central heating and domestic hot water. Specific expertise is required to install a delivery system. InstallQ has developed an accreditation scheme 'Diverter sets' for this purpose, in addition to the accreditation 'Heat delivery systems of building-related heating installations'. Installers can obtain the recognition 'Diverter sets' with the e-learning district heating installations.

Half a million new connections through 2030

The number of connections to heat networks is not growing fast enough. According to the Climate Agreement, half a million homes must be connected by 2030. Now there are only a few tens of thousands per year. The agreement should contribute to a substantial growth in the number of connections. Chairman Doekle Terpstra of Techniek Nederland: 'Installers play a crucial role in the energy transition. This also applies to heat networks. We want to increase awareness of the work and the recognition scheme Afleversets. If more installers become active in this market, this will speed up the development of sustainable heat networks.
Cora van Nieuwenhuizen, president of Energie-Nederland: 'The cooperation agreement with Techniek Nederland states that heating companies prefer to work with approved installers and will request this in their contracts. In this way we stimulate craftsmanship, fewer failures occur and installers also contribute to a faster heat transition'.

Agreements in cooperation agreement heat networks

In the agreement "Working together on the quality of sustainable heat networks," Techniek Nederland and Energie-Nederland have reached a number of agreements on work on heat networks:

  • There will be a joint quality framework for the construction, connection and management of delivery systems connected to heat networks. This is important for unambiguous quality and recognizability to customers.
  • InstallQ accreditation scheme 'Diverting sets' becomes the standard in the rollout of sustainable heat networks.
  • Techniek Nederland and Energie-Nederland will actively bring the recognition scheme "Drainage sets" and underlying recognition "Heat delivery systems of building-related heating installations" to the attention of members.
  • Techniek Nederland and Energie-Nederland advise heat companies to choose licensed installation companies when awarding contracts for district heating networks.
